At Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia, we work hard to keep your personal health information safe and private. We follow the Nova Personal Health Information Act, and we only collect the information we need to give you the best care. Our staff are trained to use your information properly and only when needed.
Your Consent
We usually need your consent (permission) to collect, use, or share your information.
- If you are a child or not able to give consent, someone else (a substitute decision maker) can do it for you.
- You can take back your consent at any time by writing to us.
How we use your personal health information
We may use or share your personal health information to:
- Care for you during your appointment.
- Work with other health care providers helping you.
- Ask for feedback through surveys.
- Follow the rules set by law.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of your health information.
- Ask for a correction if something is wrong.
- Ask who has looked at your health information.
- Be told if your health information was shared without permission (privacy breach).
- Say “no” to us sharing your health information.
- Make a privacy complaint if you are worried about how your information was used.
