An administrative support professional (ASP) is responsible for providing clerical support services. They assist and establish a positive rapport with the general public and the medical community. 

Educational requirements:

  • Certificate/Diploma from a recognized business/secretarial program
  • Computer-related skills

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and upkeep of referral intake/visit requests (wait list)
  • Maintaining client charts in keeping with electronic medical records (EMR) processes
  • Timely and accurate processing of correspondence
  • Coordinating and scheduling appointments, including recalls, as required (ensuring that patient information is up-to-date and accurate)
  • Reception duties:
    • Receiving clients/visitors
    • Directing calls
    • Taking messages
    • Answering phone calls in a friendly, professional manner
